The Botanist's Mural, 2024, Acrylic, graphite, and varnish on gypsum board. Commissioned by Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center, Vassar College, Poughkeepsie, NY. Installation photos by Sean Hemmerle Studio
The Botanist's Mural draws from the Vassar College Herbarium, which dates back to the school's founding in 1865. Herbaria are collections of pressed and dried plant specimens that are used in efforts to study and preserve biodiversity. Vassar's herbarium holds over 15,000 specimens of vascular plants, bryophytes, and algae.
